PlatformKids is an annual showcase of K-12 student art and performance. Along with the Polk County Public Schools Department of Fine Arts, and with very generous support from the GiveWell Foundation, we work with art teachers from public, private, charter, magnet, and home schools across Polk County. Platform starts planning months in advance, reaching out to art teachers for student artwork. All artwork submitted is accepted, which means a wider range of students having space and opportunity to show their work in the public realm. Platform Art also coordinates with many dance studios, band classes, choirs, drama and poetry clubs, and other performance groups. These performances are a favorite part of the party, and take place throughout the evening. Add all this together, and we have a diverse crowd, a multi-genre showcase of visual art and performance, and a fun party all in one.
PKids 2019 was held at the Junior Women’s Club in Lakeland (a big thank you to them for all of their help and time and support!), and approximately 250 people attended. The event featured 20 schools, 7 performance groups, 5 interactive activities led by local community organizations, and more than 270 pieces of student art.
